Summary

A token cannot be destroyed on a blockchain but can be "removed" via sending it to a burn or null address. A burn address allows users to effectively remove tokens from the available supply, decreasing the circulating supply. This is due to a burner address only being able to receive but not being able to send out of it. This is because the wallet is generated, and a user destroys its private key or word phrase. Projects often use these addresses as a Proof of Burn, meaning anyone can view a particular burner wallet address and see it hasn't been moved.
