The Gala Node software requires a computer with consistent uptime and a stable internet connection. Running the software on a home computer may not be available for some, so using a VPS can help fulfill this need. This guide provides general instructions on selecting a machine from a VPS provider.

There are plenty of options when choosing a VPS Provider. Most known providers have Windows or Ubuntu Linux options from which users can choose. Please see Gala Node Requirements for more information about what server specs a VPS should be before continuing.

1) Select a VPS Provider and create an account. For this guide, we listed the known VPS providers in the community.

2) Select a machine that meets or exceeds the hardware specifications required by the Gala Node Software.

3) Choose a server location. A server location is a physical location where the VPS will run. It is recommended to select a near your area, as this will decrease latency between the server and the remote computer. This example will use the Atlanta server in the United States.

Note: If creating multiple Gala Node VPS, it is best to spread the servers to different server locations in case of a server failure.

 

4) Select an Operating System for the VPS. Users should choose between Ubuntu 20.04 x64 or Windows 11 Home. 

 

Note: The Gala Node software does NOT work with IPv6, please do not select an IPv6-only server, and make sure the IPv6 is NOT enabled.

5) Enter a name for the Server Hostname and Server Label. This example will use the name listed below. If running more than one of the Gala Node Software, it may be beneficial to name each one with a number at the end. This will make it easier to identify.

 

6) At the bottom of the webpage, click Deploy Now or a similar prompt based on the website.
